History of Mission Hills Employee Scholarship Fund

Scholars in the Family

Members of Mission Hills Country Club enjoy the very best of country club living, with world-class golf, tennis, fitness, bocce and croquet facilities. Where else can you find one of the LPGA "Big Four" and the Davis Cup, plus what Southern California golf magazines call “the premiere golf courses in the desert,” all in one spot?

We also are blessed with a world-class and loyal family of employees, more than 200 men and women who keep the club humming.

The Beginning

In early 2006, a group of members got together and asked employees what would be a good way to give a little added "thanks" to this loyal family. Without hesitation, the employees said they would like scholarship opportunities for themselves, their spouses and their children.

And so was born the Mission Hills Employee Scholarship Fund, which has grown from a handful of friends to hundreds of member donors. Please consider joining us.

Here's how the Fund works

All employees with more than one year's service, their spouses and children are eligible. While college is often the most selected opportunity, it's not the only one. Cooking school, golf course and landscape maintenance — there are so many ways our employees can enhance their education. And to make sure the educational experience is a success, the Scholarship Fund also provides mentors from among club members. In Spring of 2010 we also began funding English as a Second Language classes for employees, and guidance counseling for at-risk high school students.

How You Can Help

Money for scholarships is provided in two important ways. First through contributions from club members and friends; and second through our annual Scholars' Festival every spring filled with auctions, tournaments, food and fun.

To make sure all contributions are used wisely, the Employee Scholarship Fund has teamed up with the Desert Community Foundation for administration and grant tracking. Not only does this keep administrative costs among the lowest in the desert (less than five cents on the dollar), it also means your gift to the fund is fully tax-deductible.

Gift of a Lifetime

You can join your friends at the club by mailing your donation to the address below. In addition to a contribution, you may wish to help on the Scholars' Festival, contribute auction items, or volunteer in other important ways. All contributions should be made payable to: Desert Community Foundation — Mission Hills Employee Scholarship Fund (DCF-MHESF).

There simply is no better gift than the gift of knowledge. Together we can make a huge difference to our employees and their families. Please give to the Mission Hills Employee Scholarship Fund — it can be the gift of a lifetime.
